unresolved

I don't do resolutions. I barely even do goals. I am not by nature a very goal-oriented person.

I tend to find that each year a theme develops. A focus.

I am sensing that this year my focus will be living more intentionally. I tend to just let life happen. It washes over me and time goes by and nothing has been accomplished. I kinda live by the seat of my pants. I'm finding that's not really workin for me. I mean, I like it. It's easy and all that, but haphazard living isn't getting things done the way I'd like.

So, I am going to have to learn how to have just a little bit of structure in my life. I am going to set up just the tiniest little schedule for myself. If it's too much, I will just rebel, so I have to go easy.

And I'm going to have to set a goal and try to care about whether I reach it or not.

So, I will schedule housework because doing it when I feel like it… well…I don't want to talk about it.

The same goes for writing.

I need to make some plans and follow them. I can't plan my life, obviously. That is outside my control. But I can plan my hours. I'm tired of seeing time slip away unchanged.

So, do you do resolutions? Goals? Anything? What do you want to do differently in 2008?

  1. I want balance!! For me..I clean too much. My children will not remember my clean home..but the time I spent with them. So for me I have to balance my need for a clean home and my families needs. I am getting better...but I still need work. Amazing I know!! :)

  2. Wow. I would like to say I clean too much. Never going to happen, I'm afraid. Not enough is more like it.

Don't do resolutions either, but my "goal(s)"--like you, I don't demand them of myself or I rebel--is always to grow closer to God, to know Jesus more intimately, to allow the Holy Spirit complete rein in order for Him to reign in my life. I want to pray more, read the Word more, see through His eyes.

I want to finish my current WIP (a novel) in a timely manner while maintaining my blog.

  3. Kay,

Great post! I smile as I read because I find myself in what you say often. I too have to figure out how to schedule some house keeping tasks. I always make sure I have done what has to be done, but some things slip...of course my excuse is my kids enjoy the freedom to play games and stuff, but like one said above - balance I need balance. I also like what Nicole said about relationship with God.

I don't like to make resolutions because I don't keep them and it depresses me...so life goals that is what I need.

    Thanks Kay!

  4. Speaking of resolutions...

  5. I don't really make New Year's resolutions. If I did decide to change something, I would probably want to keep a cleaner house. But I doubt if that will ever change.

  6. Since I was old enough to understand the meaning of procrastination, my resolution has been to not be a procrastinator.

The past few years I've prayed for a theme word for the year. I don't have it yet, but I trust God will reveal it to me soon.

    Happy New Year!

    A prisoner of hope,

  7. I taught Loopdeloops everything she knows about being organized:) It does sound like a good start and not too overwhelming. My goal for this next year is to have a goal. We had a pastor's wife once who cooked up entrees once a month and froze them to be used that month. She was extremely organized in her household. But she had difficulty pulling together a ladies' meeting or activity. Me,however, I can organize a huge activity but can't keep up at home. So which one is the organized one? I have more daily stuff to keep track of now than I do huge activities (I once worked in activities in nursing homes) or church projects, so I guess the household stuff is more important. Sorry, Kay. Wish I had a smiley face.
