happy new year?

How does the new year make you feel?
Are you excited at the prospects and potential?
Are you relieved to have the old one behind you and to be given a clean slate?
I almost always feel overwhelmed and a bit blue.  I haven't ever analyzed it before, but this year I'm curious as to why I get down in the dumps in the early days of January.

So, that's why I haven't been posting much.  I'm kinda blah and blue and very tired.  I don't seem to have much energy for turning thoughts into words.

So you tell me about how January makes you feel.  What do you think about?  Is it exciting, daunting, refreshing, or other?

  1. I have mixed feelings. I'm sad because Christmas is over. I truly enjoy the Christmas season, though it seems to go by faster and faster each year. I look forward to the fresh start though. It gives me a chance to review the previous year and prepare for the year ahead.

  2. I get blue during the winter months too. And I feel blah a lot of the time. Can't get too excited about anything at the moment. On sunny days I feel better. I did buy some new shoes and that made me feel a lot better. :)

  4. Honestly, I'm dreading January 20th.

The Lord God is on the throne, and He knows all things. He sustains me and brings me the joy I need to continue to reveal Him in this life in my own heart and to others.

  5. I think it's because Jan. seems to last soooooo long and is soooooo cold and we are getting off of a la la high-if you know what I mean. I actually get purty excited about the new year...I think it's because I have unrealistic expectations of what will happen. :)

  6. I think we are all so busy and happy over the holidays that January is kind of a letdown. But in Feb there is Valentines Day and then Easter and on to Spring...so it gets better. :)
And of course, there's always Starbucks!

    Smiles.

  7. Spring and fall are my favorite seasons. I like the idea of a clean slate and reflecting on what I accomplished the past year, hoping and praying, Lord willing, to accomplish more this year. I don't like the cold. I love spring when the flowers bloom, the birds sing, and I feel reborn and renewed like the green shoots of grass spurting forth to begin a new year of growth. January is thought-processing time. February is knowing winter will end soon and azaleas will bloom, my favorite outdoor flowers. March is the beginning, the spring, that makes me feel alive and feel like springing forth with renewed vigor and energy. January is officially the beginning of the year, but I guess I'm a slow started in some ways and hunker down like an old bear until winter ends and spring renews the world with its vibrant colors.

    Just musing,
    Blessings,
    Barb

  8. when I was a kid in school..jan and feb were awfully long months. It is sad to see all the holidays come and go. Right now..in Florida..it is like Spring. Sunny..beautiful..the air is clean and clear..no humidity and the bugs are kept at bay. So..it feels really fresh and new here. I am finding it makes the New Year feel more new. I can honestly say that during Christmas..I missed the snow..now I am glad it isn't here. It is fun to have the kids riding bikes..wearing shorts and flip flops..and swinging in the Lanai with a good cup of coffee. This year...I feel fresh..and closer to the Lord..more so than I have in a very long time. anyway...those are my musings...:)

  9. I only mind January if there is on-going snow--if it sticks around a long time. Otherwise, winter is okay with me although I look forward to spring (which may not occur in Colorado until April and May, or at least we may still have random snows).

As I've gotten older, I fear the new year a little. Only God knows what the new year will bring.
